The best rickshaws – know its importance in transportation
The sight of rickshaws plying across the streets is a common thing in Asian countries. It is a boon sometimes and sometimes it is a nuisance. As it plies mostly through the by lanes and small roads, it is a great help to passengers who need to travel for smaller distances. So they need not depend on buses, cabs, etc which rarely ply short distances. But sometimes these there wheeler or two wheeler rickshaws creates immense irritation to the traffic as it enters and moves here and there without following any rules and regulations of the traffic.
The two wheeler bicycle rickshaws are good means to travel as they do not produce any pollution like the other vehicles which exhaust fumes out, polluting the atmosphere. This type of transport which is either drawn by an individual or driven by an individual which allows one to two persons to commute, is a very common site in most of the Asian countries. Though it has started to be used in places like London as well but it originates from Asia.
There are few advantages in using this mode of transport:
* It can travel through lanes and by lane easily unlike the other bigger and larger vehicles.
* The price that is charged for travelling in these is comparatively lesser than what is charged for the other larger vehicles, excluding situations when you are travelling for very far distances when they might also charge you more.
* It does not create pollution as the other vehicles which run on petrol or diesel do. This is one vita factor which is being considered by all the developed nations due to the high levels of pollution existing in the developed cities. With ozone level almost depleting, it is high time that constructive steps be taken to take care of the environment. These rickshaws could be the one of the ways to reduce pollution caused due to transportation vehicles.
So the next time you sit in a rickshaw, hope this write up rings a bell in your mind!
Modern Rickshaws
Rickshaws has been the major means of cheap transportation at Eastern countries but as well also to other countries nowadays and its evolution into now modern rickshaw has added more to its popularity.
In the absence of cars, taxis, bus, train, who you gonna call and rely on to transport yourself from another far away or remote place? Hmm, I guess your own foot? Yap some would prefer to walk than ride a bicycle rickshaw or pedicab rickshaws, though a rickshaw is also a comfort ride similar to cars or taxis.
A rickshaw has gone a long way from being the manual person pulling the cart into a driving gear or into a pedicab or bike rickshaw or auto rickshaw or bajaj rickshaw like in India. However, in the Philippines there are two types of rickshaws that is the pedicab rickshaw or three-wheeler bike and tricycle. The development of now the modern rickshaw is brought by the disadvantage to a traditional manual runner who pulls it, that is, because of the accidents met by the manual puller then. Yap, how can anyone run and pulled a rickshaw with a rider in it only by just running within few kilometers without ever got injured on the foot, like sprains, plantar fasiciitis, calcaneal stress fracture, Achilles tendon bursitis, extensor tendinitis, and other foot injured acquired by running frequently? Even an athlete runner could acquire these foot injuries, what more is an ordinary rickshaw runner?
Thus, from traditional rickshaws, it has evolved into many modern variations, from pedicab rickshaw into auto rickshaw, into bike rickshaw, and other modern innovations of it. However, the traditional rickshaws still exist today. Some of those have been an exhibit to museum, those rickshaws at middle ages or the antique one.
Some of the modern rickshaws or auto rickshaws at Bangladesh have colorful designs and arts, but thisrickshaw art of them is not unique in its sense because some passenger Jeepneys at the Philippines has this also kind of art on their jeeps. What is this, coincidence? However, it is said that rickshaw art is a part of a strategy of the rickshaw owner to get customers or passengers. Thus, it is also said that from rickshaw art many rickshaw owners compete tightly to get a passengers.
The Cost of a Rickshaw
The cost of a modern rickshaw today varies from place to place and what type of model of rickshaw you would like to buy as well as what brand it is, compare to earlier times when rickshaw is still similar to a vinegar cart. That is why in earlier times rickshaw is called vinaigrettes.
On earlier times, if you are a rickshaw owner, all you have to do or all you will need is a wheel barrow, a puller, a seater for passenger and your own natural strength to pull it, thus it is more cheaper and economical to have one at that time than today wherein you are buying not only the brand but also the machine of the modern rickshaw, if you prefer the modern rickshaw than the older ones.
Moreover, a passenger of a modern rickshaw would also pay higher fare than on the traditional or older ones, of course because of the machine and motor the modern rickshaw is being run to.
A bit about myself: I have been deeply involved in the whole rickshaw business for a few years, having had my own rickshaw business at Lake Constance/Germany and selling Ice Cream out of a rickshaw as well as a brief experience in London as a Rickshaw Driver, now I have started a new Bicycle Touring Network called WorldPedal (yes I have some experience in cycle touring as well).
